About the Role

UNICEF is seeking a dedicated Health Officer (Polio) to contribute to achieving critical health outcomes for children and women in Nigeria. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by supporting the implementation of immunization strengthening programmes, polio eradication initiatives, and maternal and child health systems at federal, state, and local government levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical and operational support for health programme development, planning, and implementation
  • Manage polio eradication programmes and operationalize immunization strengthening initiatives
  • Support zero-dose reduction and maternal and neonatal health care planning
  • Monitor disease outbreaks and coordinate response planning and operationalization
  • Conduct results-based planning and progress monitoring across health programmes
  • Build partnerships and networks with government agencies and stakeholders
  • Drive innovation and knowledge management in health programme delivery
  • Provide capacity building support to programme teams and partners

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, nutrition, pediatric health, family health, epidemiology, health policy, biostatistics, or related field
  • Minimum two years professional experience in public health planning, maternal and neonatal health, or health emergency preparedness
  • Demonstrated expertise in immunization programme management and polio eradication
  • Strong partnership and stakeholder management skills
  • Fluency in English (additional UN languages or local languages are advantageous)
  • Prior experience with UN agencies or work in development and humanitarian contexts preferred
