About the Role

Dangote Group, Africa's leading business conglomerate, is seeking a highly experienced Head, Power Plant to oversee the operations, maintenance, and safety of its power generation facility. This role is critical to ensuring uninterrupted power supply to support cement production while maintaining the highest standards of efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the power plant, ensuring compliance with operation manuals and company standards to meet production power requirements.
  • Manage gas supply and gas contracts with NGML, ensuring continuous and reliable fuel supply.
  • Handle long-term service contracts with OEMs of Gas Turbine generators.
  • Ensure full compliance with environmental management policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee procurement of power plant spare parts, equipment, and materials within approved budgets.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of performance improvement plans for the plant.
  • Plan and supervise all plant maintenance activities to maximize uptime and efficiency.
  • Champion occupational health and safety standards for all personnel working within the power plant.
  • Lead the training, mentoring, and development of power plant staff.
  • Control power plant costs in line with approved budgets, including verification and certification of gas bills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Director.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering (Power option), or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 20 years' hands-on experience operating Gas Turbine-based Power Plants, including at least 5 years in a Head of Power Plant role.
  • Proven track record in operating Gas Turbine-based power generation plants with high output, availability, and efficiency.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience monitoring and controlling O&M costs, managing contracts, and preparing budgets.
  • Excellent leadership, people management, and team development skills.
  • Strong data analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Creative and innovative thinker with the ability to drive continuous improvement.
