About the Role
Dangote Fertiliser Limited (DFL), a subsidiary of the Dangote Group, is seeking a seasoned Head of Sustainability to lead the design, implementation, and oversight of its environmental sustainability and climate strategy. This senior leadership role is central to ensuring DFL's operations align with the Dangote Group ESG Strategy Framework, international environmental standards, and regulatory obligations across all operational jurisdictions.
The successful candidate will provide strategic direction on climate risk management, ESG reporting, and stakeholder engagement, while leading a team of sustainability professionals to embed environmental best practices into core business processes. This is an exceptional opportunity for a sustainability expert to shape the ESG agenda of one of Africa's largest fertiliser manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement DFL's sustainability strategy, covering climate mitigation, carbon reduction, and compliance with UN SDGs, TCFD, GRI, ISSB, UNGC, and IFC Performance Standards
- Establish corporate sustainability policies aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements
- Lead, mentor, and build capacity within a team of ESG professionals through training and workshops
- Provide strategic guidance to Top Management and Board members on sustainability and climate matters
- Collaborate with HSSE, Environment, Engineering, and Operations teams to embed sustainability into business decision-making
- Monitor compliance with environmental regulations and ESG policies, advising on corrective actions
- Lead assessment and management of climate-related risks, including biodiversity, water security, and emissions
- Conduct climate risk and vulnerability assessments and develop mitigation strategies
- Oversee baseline emissions assessments and set reduction targets in line with Net Zero commitments
- Develop the company's GHG Data Inventory in line with ISO 14064, GHG Protocol, and IPCC standards
- Design and implement ESG reporting templates, dashboards, and KPIs
- Lead preparation of DFL's Annual Sustainability Reports and board-ready disclosures
- Build and maintain relationships with regulators, government agencies, and development partners
- Represent the company in external forums on sustainability and ESG matters
- Oversee budgets and resource allocation for sustainability initiatives
- Minimum of 10 years' demonstrable experience in strategy, environmental sustainability, ESG reporting, climate risk management, and corporate planning within manufacturing, energy, or industrial sectors
- Hands-on expertise in GRI, CDP, UNGC, IFRS S1 & S2, ISSB, and TCFD frameworks
- Proven track record in GHG accounting (Scope 1, 2, and material Scope 3) and science-based target setting
- Experience developing enterprise-wide ESG and climate data management frameworks
- Demonstrated experience leading sustainability programs and cross-functional teams
- Experience engaging regulators, development partners, and Board-level stakeholders on ESG matters
- Practical experience with decarbonization initiatives, low-carbon investments, and sustainable agriculture programs
- Professional certification in Sustainability or ESG (e.g., CPD Reporting Certification) is an added advantage
