About the Role

Netcom Africa Limited, West Africa's pioneering ICT solutions provider since 2004, is seeking an experienced Core IP Network Engineer to join its technical operations team. This role is central to ensuring the availability, security, and performance of our Core IP network infrastructure, which powers our industry-leading connectivity services across Nigeria and beyond.

The successful candidate will play a key role in network operations, troubleshooting, project implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives that support our expanding infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the operation and maintenance of Core IP infrastructure, including wired, wireless, optical, and Datacenter network systems
  • Contribute to network design and implementation for enterprise and client network solutions
  • Maintain high availability and security of the Core IP network within defined performance thresholds
  • Perform Level 2/Level 3 troubleshooting and resolve incidents within agreed SLAs
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders on network upgrades, expansions, migrations, and change management activities
  • Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, topology, and implemented changes
  • Monitor Data Centre components, including electrical systems, cooling, and rack connectivity, to ensure optimal performance
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics/Telecommunications/Network/Computer Engineering or a related field
  • IP certification, preferably Cisco CCNA level or above
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in Core Network engineering
  • Experience working within ISPs, Carriers, or Datacenter environments
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English
  • Hands-on experience with LAN/WAN technologies, TCP/IP, routers, and network security (Cisco, Juniper, Barracuda firewalls)
  • Strong knowledge of Router, Catalyst, Load Balancer, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP4, VPN, Frame Relay, VLAN, Spanning Tree, and Ethereal
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux and shell scripting
  • Experience with last-mile access solutions (DSL, microwave radio, PTP/PTMP radio, fibre)
  • Hands-on design and operation experience with BGP and MPLS
  • Willingness to provide support outside standard office hours
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and a strong team player able to prioritize competing demands
  • Experience liaising with Regional IP Registries (APNIC, RIPE, AfriNIC) is an advantage
  • Project management knowledge and familiarity with IDS, QoS, video/streaming protocols, structured cabling, and VoIP are desirable
