About the Role
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a skilled and compassionate Consultant Migration Health Nurse to join its Migration Health Assessment Clinic (MHAC) in Nigeria. This role plays a critical part in delivering high-quality nursing care to migrants and refugees, ensuring that health assessments, treatments, and referrals meet the technical requirements of resettlement countries. The successful candidate will work within a dynamic, multicultural environment supporting IOM's mission of humane and orderly migration.
As a Consultant Migration Health Nurse, you will provide direct clinical care, patient education, and administrative support while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of health professionals, panel physicians, and partner agencies. Key Responsibilities- Conduct daily nursing activities within the MHAC, including medical examinations, vital signs checks, and sample collection.
- Support imaging, laboratory testing, vaccinations, and TB management procedures.
- Provide clear information to migrants and refugees regarding the health assessment process, treatments, and referrals.
- Ensure accurate biodata collection, history taking, and ID verification throughout the assessment process.
- Maintain compliance with Health Assessment Programme SOPs and universal precaution standards.
- Oversee proper transport of laboratory samples and manage MHAC pharmacy and medical kits.
- Deliver pre- and post-test counselling on TB and HIV prevention and management.
- Prepare administrative reports, program updates, and statistical data for the Senior Migration Health Nurse or CMHO.
- Support mobile missions, pre-departure documentation, and medical escort duties as required.
- Maintain strong working relationships with internal departments, embassies, UN agencies, and NGOs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Nursing from an accredited institution; valid nursing license in Nigeria required.
- Minimum of three years' clinical experience (Bachelor's degree) or five years' (Diploma).
- Strong technical skills, including phlebotomy expertise.
- Experience in TB management, immunizations, communicable diseases, or public health is an advantage.
- Sound knowledge of clinical nursing, infection prevention, and patient safety practices.
- Excellent bedside manner and strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access).
- Postgraduate qualification in emergency or clinical specialization is a plus.
