About the Role
African Foundries Limited (AFL) is a leading steel manufacturing company in Nigeria, dedicated to driving national self-reliance in steel rebars and allied products. We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and experienced CNC Operator to join our dynamic production team. In this role, you will play a vital part in our high-capacity manufacturing plant by ensuring precision, efficiency, and safety in all CNC machining operations.
Key Responsibilities- Operate CNC machines, including knotting, branding, laser cutting, drilling, milling, and turning machines for steel fabrication.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical diagrams, blueprints, and work instructions.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, machine settings, programs, and parameters for various steel grades and thicknesses.
- Load and secure workpieces onto machines and execute CNC programs to meet specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Monitor machine performance, inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments, and report defects.
- Perform routine machine cleaning, lubrication, preventive maintenance, and replace worn cutting tools.
- Minimize material wastage, scrap, and unnecessary downtime while adhering to production targets.
- Comply with occupational health and safety regulations, utilizing appropriate PPE and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Technical diploma, trade certificate, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or Manufacturing Technology.
- Proven practical experience operating CNC machines within a steel manufacturing or metal fabrication environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as vernier calipers and micrometers.
- Solid understanding of cutting parameters, machining tolerances, and workplace safety procedures.
- Ability to work shifts, meet strict production deadlines, and collaborate effectively within a team.
