About the Role
BBC Media Action is looking for a dedicated and strategic leader to serve as the Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee and as a Trustee. In this vital role, you will lead the committee in supporting the Board of Trustees to fulfill its responsibilities for financial stewardship, risk management, internal controls, and compliance. Working closely with executive leadership, you will provide independent oversight and constructive challenge to ensure our charitable resources are managed responsibly while advancing our impactful media and communication projects in Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the Finance and Audit Committee in accordance with its Terms of Reference, ensuring effective oversight of financial reporting, risk, and internal controls.
- Review the integrity of financial statements, annual budgets, financial forecasts, and long-term financial plans prior to Board consideration.
- Oversee the effectiveness of risk management systems, fraud prevention, whistleblowing, and safeguarding policies.
- Review assurance and audit plans, monitoring management responses and maintaining effective relationships with external auditors.
- Develop collaborative working relationships with the CEO, COO, and senior management, providing robust support and constructive challenge.
- Significant experience in financial governance, audit, risk management, or assurance oversight at CFO, Finance Director, or equivalent executive level.
- Strong understanding of charity governance, regulation, financial reporting requirements, and the Charity SORP.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse complex financial statements, audit reports, and risk registers within a complex international environment.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and chairing skills with sound independent judgement.
