About the Role
Jamub Group is looking for a dedicated Asphalting Operative to join our road construction team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality infrastructure projects across Nigeria. This role is essential to ensuring that asphalt-laying operations, from surface preparation to final compaction, are executed efficiently, safely and in line with project specifications. As part of a growing conglomerate with diverse business interests, you will play a hands-on role in shaping durable, well-finished road surfaces that meet industry standards.
The successful candidate will work closely with paver and roller operators, batching plant teams and site supervisors to ensure smooth coordination throughout the asphalting process. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with practical road construction experience who is passionate about quality workmanship and committed to maintaining strict health and safety standards on site.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare road surfaces thoroughly and apply tack coat evenly ahead of asphalt paving operations.
- Support asphalt paving and rolling processes to achieve the specified thickness, density and surface finish.
- Coordinate closely with paver and roller operators, as well as the batching plant team, to manage mix delivery timing and avoid cold joints or costly delays.
- Monitor asphalt temperature and consistency during laying to ensure optimal compaction results.
- Assist in identifying and correcting surface irregularities before final rolling.
- Comply fully with all Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) protocols and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Participate actively in toolbox talks and daily safety briefings prior to commencing work.
- Promptly report hazards, near-misses or incidents to the Site Engineer or HSE Officer.
- Maintain tools and equipment used in asphalting operations in good working condition.
- Support general site housekeeping to ensure a safe and organised work environment.
- Minimum of a Secondary School Certificate; additional technical or vocational training in road construction is an advantage.
- Proven experience working on asphalt paving, road construction or similar civil works projects.
- Practical knowledge of tack coat application, paving and rolling processes.
- Strong understanding of HSE practices and willingness to strictly adhere to safety protocols.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and coordinate with equipment operators and site personnel.
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in demanding site conditions.
